"June 18th is Emigrants Day(Official Name: Overseas Emigration Day)!

June 18th, 1908 was the day that the ship "Kasato Maru" carrying the first group of 781 people to embark on full-scale overseas emigration, arrived at the Port of Santos in Brazil. To commemorate this day, June 18th has been designated as "Overseas Emigration Day."
In addition, the Okinawa Prefectural Library also offers free research services mainly for those of Okinawan descent from overseas to find their roots. Also, residents of the prefecture can also use the service to look for the footprints of their relatives who have emigrated overseas.
